Twinings Sparkling Tea - Advertising Shoot

We were commissioned by the advertising agency, Uncommon, to shoot stills and motion for a new Twining’s sparkling tea drink. As it was a new product, the brief was to really focus in on the can, making it as iconic as possible.

It is served cold and is carbonated, so we needed to emphasize these key features.

With this sort of minimal image, its always the very smallest of details that make the difference. On cold cans the “spritz” is the key visual way to project cold.

The agency wanted the product to look as natural as possible, so we kept the spritz quite loose and random, just using water mostly, rather than a glycerin mix (which gives more even bubbles).

As is often the case these days they wanted to make sure it looked real, and not AI or CGI generated. For the carbonated clues, we shot a spurt of liquid coming out of the top, as if the can had just been opened. We shot this as a separate “plate” on very high-speed flash, making a rig that could fire the liquid up from below.

For the motion elements I worked with Alex Mead, we used a very similar set, introducing a rotation on the can and then shooting the spurt with a high speed camera to capture the burst.
